Burn Away Body Fat By Eating Red-Hot Chili Peppers

August 12th, 2008 · Body Fat, cayenne pepper

The Cayenne Pepper, ripe fruit, is a many-seeded pod with a leathery out-side in various shades of yellow or red and referred to as chilies.  The most common California chilies are Serrano, yellow wax and jalapeno.  Capsaicin is the particular compound that accounts for the fiery properties in all chilies.  Capsaicin is able to first stimulate and then desensitize the warth detectors in the hypothalamus gland, so that a drop in body temperature takes place.  This enables the natives in hot southern climates to tolerate the heat.

So what are the benefits of Cayenne Pepper?

  1. Burn Away Body Fat by Eating Red-Hot Chili Peppers
  2. Remedy for Sore Throat
  3. Salve for Sprains and Bruises
  4. Relieve Rheumatoid Arthritis
  5. Knocks Out Cold and Flue Miseries
  6. Halts Bleeding Quickly
  7. Reduce Pain Associated with Shingles
  8. Antidotes for Reducing Pepper’s Hotness

Let’s go a little deeper into each benefit starting with;

Part 1:  Burn Away Body Fat by Eating Red-Hot Chili Peppers

Some European studies have suggested that adding cayenne pepper to your meals not only boosts your vitamin C levels, but can rev up your “fat thermostats” (called “brown fat”), which enables the body to burn off more fat through chemical combustion, rather than storing it in muscle tissue.

When you attend a big chili festival like those held periodically in the American Southwest, take time to look around and observe those in attendance.  Notice that among the true chili enthusiasts, three are very little obesity.

Refer:  Miracle Healing Herbs/John Heinerman Ph.D./Prentice Hall - pg. 128

I my next post I will go into detail on benefit part 2: Remedy for Sore Throat.

Kidney Disease is Ranked in the Top 10 Causes of Death. How Healthy are Your Kidneys?

July 22nd, 2008 · Diseases

According to the Centers of Disease Control, kidney disease is ranked in the top 10 causes of death.

Kidney disease plays a major role in Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Brain Disorders, Cancer and several other Diseases.

The kidneys produce a hormone (erythropoietin) that stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells.  Red blood cells carry oxygen to all of the other cells in the body including teeth and gum tissue.  People with kidney disease don’t always produce enough erythropoietin, and the result can be anemia (a shortage of red blood cells).

If your kidneys fail to keep your body clear of toxic waste, then the result is an increase in the level of toxicity throughout the body including the oral cavity (mouth) which, in turn, leads to a health crisis.

The American lifestyle (containing alcohol, red meat, coffee, caffeinated teas, soft drinks, artificial sweeteners and sugars) is killing our kidneys.

So, with that in mind what are you to do for your threatened kidneys?

  1. Drink more water.  Twelve glasses of water a day is recommended.
  2. Cut back or, better yet, eliminate dehydrating agents.  The ones to eliminate are the worst of the bunch, such as alcohol, soft drinks and coffee.

Beware: People with kidney disease should not take supplements without first consulting their doctor.  With kidney disease, the kidneys cannot process high doses of nutrients.

It is important to do all you can to keep your kidneys healthy which, in turn, will help to keep your oral cavity healthy coupled with good oral hygiene habits.

Struggling with cold and flu miseries? This might help…

July 18th, 2008 · Dental Nutrition

The dreaded cold and flu.  Everyone gets them, it’s like death and taxes, you just can’t avoid them, but…

You know vitamin C is promoted as a key element in the fight against colds and flu. So, you do the right thing and reach for the vitamin C.  You load up on vitamin C and wait for the desired results.  Time ticks away and the miseries of the cold/flu still linger.  How can that be? How come you are not getting the needed relief?  Is vitamin C just a hoax?  The real question is — is vitamin C expected to do the job all by its self?  Maybe it needs a little help.  In fact, vitamin C doesn’t work as well unless it is taken with another key element, cayenne pepper.

An old Amish remedy has given many the desired relief they needed.  This herb remedy is called Super C.  It is mixture of cayenne pepper, ginger root and vitamin A in with vitamin C to make it more potent. You might try this old remedy when you feel the miseries of the cold and/or flu starting to sap the energy right out of you.

There are a number of places which carry herbs and spices for medical and culinary uses.  You might start with your local health food stores.

Conclusion: Vitamin C is essential in a healthy diet. Don’t discount the benefits of this valuable and essential vitamin in helping to maintain a healthy oral cavity.

Here’s to a healthy mouth supported by good nutrition including vitamin C.

Young soccer star “runs out of gas”, is nutrition to blame?

June 30th, 2008 · Dental Nutrition

Summer is here and sports is in full swing. You have soccer practice, swim team, karate, football camp, basketball camp and dance classes for the little ones. Your running like wild cats and dogs trying to get to every practice on time. Your rush home, tell your kids to eat whatever they want and you run out the door to the next practice. Sound familiar? Sure, we’ve all been there, done that.

Have you ever noticed if your child is running out of gas during practice? Maybe you just thought, “well the coach is running them so of course they’re tired”. Did you ever think it was the “eat whatever you want” that was slowing them down?

Many years ago I coached a youth soccer team and had a tall slender talented young man on our team who was a key player in helping our team place 1st that season.

Steve was a pleasant and dedicated youth and loved the game of soccer. He never missed a practice even though his parents never came and supported him during practices or games. They never once saw him play in the real live exciting weekend games.

With all his dedication, agility and talent he lacked one very important ingredient…endurance. He would, as they say, “run out of gas” early in the game. He was a valuable player and this lack of endurance concerned me a lot.

One day I took him aside and inquired about his eating habits. I found out he ate at the Circle K store down the block from his home as meals at home were seldom, if ever, provided. His diet was “junk food”. The only healthy food he had, to my knowledge, were the sliced oranges, healthy snacks and 100% fruit drinks supplied by our team on game days. We had a great team “mom”!

Obviously our children need our help and guidance in order to avoid the junk food lures that are so enticing, attractive and misleading.

I wonder what Steve’s diet is like today? What health issues is he facing? Does he struggle with cavities, loss of teeth / or periodontal disease? Maybe a great big dental bill!!

The point is good health starts with what you put into your mouth. Whether your playing sports or just playing with the kids next door, eating healthy will improve your overall ability.

A healthy oral cavity is critical to your overall health and should never be ignored in children. So please, provide your kids with a healthy diet and the healthy beautiful smile and attention they need to stay healthy throughout their life.

Having dental surgery or any other dental procedure done anytime soon? If so, don’t forget your vitamin C.

June 25th, 2008 · Dental Nutrition

Vitamin C is a natural anti-inflammatory. It aids in reducing pain either by decreasing

local fluid levels or because of diuretic properties that reduce inflammation.

In addition vitamin C is an antioxidant and aids in reducing pain by reducing free-radical formation.

Pg 287 – Natures Pharmacy/Walker-Brown/Prentice Hall

It is logical that vitamin C will be beneficial in helping reduce inflammation in the oral cavity as well as help reduce pain.

In the natural prevention and treatment of skin cancer vitamin C is noted:

Zane Kime, M.D., in a groundbreaking book called Sunlight, demonstrates that the sun creates free-radical damage only in the absence of protective antioxidants and the presence of harmful fats. The antioxidants he discussed were vitamins A, C, and E and the trace mineral selenium, but there are many others. Harmful fats include hydrogenated oils, refined oils, and saturated fat; that is, the fats in the standard American high-fat diet.

Pg 313 – Natures Pharmacy/Walker-Brown/Prentice Hall

It would appear that harmful fats can contribute to the development of cancer in any part of the body including the oral cavity in the absence of protective antioxidants. Healthy oral tissue and over-all health is very much influenced by a healthy diet which includes vitamin C.

In the preparation for surgery vitamin C is helpful:

The body’s attempt to heal itself should be supported with nutritional and herbal supplements, proper diet, and toning exercises. Additional vitamin C, vitamin B6, and magnesium are particularly important to counteract the stress of surgery on the body.

Pg 330 – Natures Pharmacy/Walker-Brown/Prentice Hall

Anything that will help the body’s attempt to heal itself obviously is a good thing and that would apply to oral surgery or any dental procedure as well.

Dangers one should be aware of:

Vitamin C supplements raise the risk of kidney stones. Vitamin C supplements, as with vitamin E, should be avoided by cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Vitamin C supplements could interfere with chemotherapy or radiotherapy by suppressing free-radical production, which is necessary to kill cancer cells.

Pg 297 – Health Breakthroughs 2008/Bottomline

Conclusion: Vitamin C is essential in a healthy diet. Don’t discount the benefits of this valuable and essential vitamin in helping to maintain a healthy oral cavity.

Here’s to a healthy mouth supported by good nutrition including vitamin C.
